The OMM-3000 NIR Online Moisture
Meter is a microprocessor controlled infra-red reflectance moisture analyzer.
The latest feature is a new
Linearized Base Line algorythm for high signal to noise ratio allowing
for high sensitivity and excellent repeatability.
The Instrument can be connected
using a standard computer for complete control and calibration or a control
unit for simplified in-process control.
With a PC connection: The OMM-3000
can be used as an integrated process control system using the RS-485 interface.
Up to 32 Sensor Units can be used and controlled. 10 calibration curves
can be stored for each sensor. The software has total control of each
sensor including initial setting, calibration, digital and graphical display,
diagnostics and more.
New! -
With a Control Unit Connection: Up to 8 Sensor units can be connected
to the control unit. 10 calibration curves can be stored for each sensor.
Sensor Information:
The sensor unit uses a dual
pbS filtering technique to compensate long term light drift. The double
filtering technique has excellent accuracy for a wide range of moisture
levels including shiny samples.
3 Filters are used to measure
moisture. Two moisture ranges are available from 0 to 40% and from 40
to 90%.
The communication output from
the OMM-3000 is via RS-485, it is possible to connect up to 32 units which
can be controlled by a single PC. The connection to a PC is via RS-232.
The output from the OMM-3000 is via RS-485. An RS-485/232 converter is used
to connect multiple unit sensors to the PC.
The unit is fixed by four
screws above the sample to keep the distance constant between the sample
and the unit. The OMM-3000 unit is suitable for measuring moisture of
moving samples because of a reflectance non-contact method.
The optimum sample speed is less than 2-3 meter/sec, and for improved
accuracy, the surface of the sample should be as flat as possible.
After installing and calibrating
the OMM3000 sensor, the PC can be removed from the system and instead
of a PC, an LED display can be used (or Controller) to monitor the value
of moisture via the display(option) which is connected to an analog output(4-20mA).
The OMM3000Pro software is
installed on a standard PC using Windows 95 or 98) from a standard 1.44Mb
Floppy disk.

Accuracy:
The accuracy depends on the condition of the sample. These conditions
include conveyer speed, height of sample, heat and humidity. Roughly,
the accuracy could be 0.1% to 0.5% between 0% to 10% and 0.1% to 1% between
10% to 30%.
The repeatability is within 0.005 at Zero plate insertion. Generally,
the calibration equation is shown Y=a+bX (Y is moisture %, X is absorbance).
When the b is less than 50 (typical value of many samples), the repeatability
of moisture is less 0.25%. The calibration of the system with known standards
is critical to obtaining accurate results.
Calibration Control:

Linear, Quadratic or Cubic line fitting algorythms
Up to 20 data points per calibration routine
Up to 10 calibration routines per sensor
How to perform the
calibration:
Before making calibration, it is necessary to make a few samples(at least
three) with known moisture. This moisture is measured by weight typically.
It is important to allow 2 or 3 days for equilibration if water is added
to the sample, because the water must be uniformly mixed in the sample.
The accuracy of the results is directly dependant on the accuracy of the
standards. These standards should be near the actual moisture level of
the measuring sample.
In this software, there are three calibrate equations (linear, quadratic
and cubic). It is necessary to have at least 3 standards for the linear
calibration curve and to have five or more standard samples when using
the quadratic or cubic calibration curve. The best fit curve using the
selected equation is performed automatically.
The standard deviation and correlation coefficient is also displayed.
Up to 10 calibration curves can be stored in memory.
